Fleming Junior High
Here’s the school that Max attends: Fleming Junior High, where he’s in Year 6. It’s a modern, successful junior school with 650 pupils, and it’s only a 10-minute walk from where he lives. Like all boys his age, Max isn’t a big fan of school (he’d rather be off playing football or basketball with his friends) but, encouraged by his parents, he works hard and gets good grades.
OK, so how does the school get its name?
Fleming Junior High is named after the biologist Sir Alexander Fleming (1881-1955), famous for his discovery and development of the antibiotic penicillin in 1928. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1945 and knighted in 1944 for his research and discoveries, changing forever the treatment of infection and making possible modern antibiotics.
